Metal forming tools including stakes and hammers

I am starting off this series of short descriptions of direct metalwork by picking up on a piece currently in progress. This sculpture is nearing its completion stage, but there is still much to see from this point onward.

This piece is the beginning of a new series of studio works which are formed out of 1/8" thick copper sheets.  The initial forming was done by hammering a cut out shape into either solid steel rings or steel dishing forms that I have made.  Later on I will show some of the forming tools that I've made to supplement the limited range that is commercially available for the kind of work that I do.

Right now it's pretty much like walking into the middle of a movie, but what the hell.  When we do that it doesn't take long to get the hang of the plot and soon enough we're munching our popcorn and just going with the flow.
