| Inside view of the shell form which shows
the additional patches used to fill in the gaps between the two major
shapes. Since I'm tig welding everything, it isn't essential to have
a tight fit up as it is when brazing this material. I can easily
make a general shape, put it together then cut and form the additional
pieces to fit. Whatever gaps exist are easily filled
in with the welding rod.
At this point, there is enough open space allowing
me to continue refining the shape over forming stakes. Before doing
that, however, I must grind off the welds that have come through
the underside of the piece. Otherwise the work isn't going to
fit properly over the stakes.
I sometimes think I should have a little hinged
door or a cut out window somewhere on these hollow formed
pieces I do. As often as not the inside of the piece is even
more interesting than the outside and it's a shame not
to be able to see that. |
