copper sculpture

Making some final adjustments over the tear drop stake. During this stage I'm also planishing the surfaces to smooth out the irregularities.  I'm using a heavier  hammer  now  since I have to move  a larger section down a little bit.  This may seem like a raising operation but it really isn't since I'm not stretchng the metal, at least not all that much.

Those ear protectors I'm wearing are really necessary because this kind of hammer work on sheet metal can severely damage your hearing.  Especially when you are in close proximity of the noise itself.  Sometimes it doesn't sound so bad without the ear protection but don't kid yourself about this matter, once you lose some of your hearing, it's gone forever.
