| Cutting out another shape on the large
Beverly shears. Notice the paper pattern that was traced over an opening,
creased with my thumb then cut out. The pattern was transferred
to the copper sheet and right now a rough cut
is being made. After this, there will be about a 1"
or less extended lip around the drawn line and this shape will be recut
to the right size.
By freeing the basic rough cut pattern from the
main sheet, I'm able to manipulate the curves to be cut a bit more easily
and accurately. The thin waste strip bends and curls easily under the
blade of the shears. If I didn't do it this way first, the whole
sheet would bind under the hold down on this particular shear. It's
usually a good idea to rough cut first then do a finish cut
afterward. |
