starting to dish out the form

A new piece is being started so this part of the series will be a recapitulation of what has been shown before, as well as whatever else happens along the way.

There have been no sketches for this piece, I'm simply starting from an arbitrary shape I cut out and will allow this work to develop on it's own,  just like the others.  What I'd like to show with the making of this piece is the ability to work directly with the metal and treat it in the manner of a sketch.  I usually consider metal just another sculpting material, like wax or clay but with different properties.

The half hard copper hasn't been annealed yet since it's not being stretched very deeply so there's no need to heat it right now.  Initially, the shape is being formed in a large shallow dishing block and this will give the shape a basic set.  Once this piece takes on a slight dimensional form I'll then decide where I'm going to take this shape.
