| I had just used the shrinking stake to form the
pie crust ridges now being hammered out. I need to turn the edge
of the piece into a more severe curve at this point.
Using a heavy ball faced hammer I'm hitting the high
point of the ridges and thickening the metal as I draw it out towards the
edge. This is what's happening when shrinking, the metal is being compressesd
along this edge. I love seeing the metal gathered up then
flattened again as it's being thickened and then smoothed out again.
I can't explain why I enjoy this but maybe
I don't need to.
This operation is done directly on the steel
plate, as you can see. The form can be rolled on the flat surface
to position the area to be hammered on. By the way, I'm drawing the
metal out towards me as I work out the ridges and this also helps to pull
down this section of metal. |
