The Quadreverz Series
The Writings

The Quadreverz Journals is a new series of writings that are now integrated into The Quadreverz Series.  Initially, the stories and myths that I created were written as unique pieces, each one a specific metaphor defining some singular aspect of one Univerz or another.  I then wanted a way to tie these independent stories together in a form that was somehow more comprehensive. I wanted these to serve as a real time lubricant, easing our passage through one time/place to another without disrupting the sense of continuity. The device I chose to use is the journal form and the character to write them is Loberlym (an alter ego, obviously).

Loberlym is the individual elected to perform the chore of being our eyes and ears of this very special place.  I have this person start out our adventures with a search for a personal answer to a question, then having him become something else which he never anticipated becoming.

Loberlym is the Balboa of the Univerz, an explorer and adventurer, he is the Jacques Cousteau of the seas, unveiling dimensions of a place inaccessible to the rest of us.  He is the Amelia Erhart of the skies, reaching beyond the heights of his imagination and curiosity, a trans Univerz traveller that is undaunted, though often fearful of consequences.

Sometimes there are indeed unexpected repercussions resulting from his actions but isn't that true with most of us?  He has an insatiable appetite  for knowledge fueled by his curiosity  and his sustained quest for answers.   The complex puzzle of the Univerz sometimes yields an answer, sometimes not.

He is you and I, trying to piece together some understanding of what the Whole Thing is about.  Of course when an answer or solution to a problem is resolved, the net result is that a new question arises which continues to consume his unbounding energy.

Loberlym is not an idealistic hero, there is nothing noble about him or his character, he simply is what he is.  Subject to success and failure, it doesn't really matter since his attitude is simply to get on with the business of discovery, write his observations in the Journals and share his experiences with the rest of us.

Loberlym changes nothing, has no dynamic effect on the course of events, nor is he a saviour of any kind. Maybe in fact rather than fiction he is simply nothing more than a prosaic reporter, recording what he sees and experiences and nothing more.  He certainly isn't a poet, and no way is he a scholar.  He certainly is not a fictitious and impossible hero, vanquishing evil and promoting the well being of humanity.  I think of him as an every day Joe, caught up in  something larger than himself and just trying to cope with the complexities of simple management.

What we consider extraordinary about all of life is in reality, nothing more than common substance.  The nature of nature is universal whether here or elsewhere so what is out of the ordinary?  Nothing really.  It may seem odd that Loberlym sees nothing unusual about some aspects of the Univerz he is exploring but this is my way of stating the idea mentioned above.

What is simply stuff within the grand scheme of things is in fact a miraculous phenomenon for those of us who do not understand the principle of what is.  That is what the Quadreverz Journals are about. Discovering the miracle of the ordinary.  I very much doubt if it is within the power of any of us to be so blase as to be unmoved by the complexities of the universe, physical and otherwise.  To understand that there is nothing supernatural about any of this however, is the challenge.  The mystery of life is simply that....a mystery.  Something to be unravelled if we choose to try, something to embrace and integrate into the whole of our being.

Writing these Journals is something altogether different for me than interpreting much of what this is about, in the medium of hot forged steel.  However the interesting thing in doing this segment of the series is the interrelationship between the two mediums.

I find the diversity to be complimentary and one form actually feeds the other, serving as source material that goes back and forth.  It's much more than illustrating a point written for instance but rather reinforcement on a completely different level, a larger concept expressed in a multi lingual way.  That is how I look at it.
