d i o N o t e s November 1999 It's been a slow start getting the new web site design venture off the ground but it's coming around okay. It's just going to take a little time before it kicks in. One of the sites I just completed for another metal artist can be found at: I think you'll enjoy taking a look at his work so check it out. I've started another section for this web site called Images and the Spoken Word. Every so often I find myself creating new images out of the numerous photos I have or have taken. Now, as I do them I also write something in free verse to go along with them. Hey, it's not great literary stuff but what the hell, I enjoy doing this anyway and am glad to share it. If you enjoy these little things then great, if not that's okay too. So far I'm still not able to do much of my own work in the studio so I'm finding other ways to make use of my time. I have to be careful right now about doing any heavy work since I just had one operation for a hernia and expect to have a second one for the other, pretty soon. After a couple of months then I should be able to work as I please. In the meantime however, there is still plenty that I can do besides the website design work currently being done. I'm hoping to start a new section on the site that will feature special one person shows for artists that I feel ought to have more exposure than they currently do. Not that I'll be drawing in crowds of visitors to their exhibits but at least the artists will have a long standing show on the internet that won't be changed for another. Some artists have their own sites as well and you'll be directed there from their show. I anticipate initiating this feature next month so look in the "what's new" link on the home page if you visit again, to see if it's up yet. I think you're going to like this new feature. One artist is Bernard Brenner who is an incredibly prolific and very creative artist working in cast bronze and welded steel. He has tons of small sculptures that he is constantly adding to. Another artist is Tony Paterson who heads up the sculpture department at SUNY Buffalo. His cast bronze pieces are wonderful works and he does have his own site. Unfortunately it takes so long to download his images that I just have to extract part of his collection, make the images fast loading which I can do and make them more accessible to the public. His work is too good to miss. If you have patience for downloading then by all means don't wait for his exhibit here but go to his site instead. A lot of folks interested in sites featuring forged metal work are more than likely looking for Albert Paley's site. Well, he finally has put one on line, so if you're a fan of his, then check it out. Those who have been following these studio notes are well aware of some of the difficulties I've encountered recently. You may wonder about this renewed energy I have these days. Well, it's not because all the bad stuff has gone away, it's just that I can't sit around and brood forever on this stuff. Yes, the government is still trying to do me in and they may well succeed but for the time being the fat lady still sings and it's not over yet. Chris Ray
