d i o N o t e s April 2000 This month I uploaded images of some of the new pieces I've been working on and they can be seen here. These pieces from the Enviro Series are a lot of fun to do and since they are sort of like casual sketches in a way, I find myself just continually making one after another. This will continue for a while I suppose until whatever it is that I'm searching for emerges in a clearer light. The work is really a prelude for larger constructions that are to be part of the Quadreverz set but which I haven't quite defined in my mind yet. Once in a while I'm irresistably drawn into creating some of the new pieces as "art brut", mainly because it gives me a kind of passionate release and a break away attitude from my usual approach to metalwork. It's interesting to introduce a kind of indifference to technique and simply assemble an expressive idea without any concern about how it's done. Just do it and move on from there. I'm not sure what all this means just yet but am certain that in the back of my mind somewhere, there is a good reason for the excercise. Sooner or later I'll understand the why of it but for now, who cares? Also this month I designed a new website for Karen Brown, a Philadelphia sculptor. She includes holography in her pieces and you might enjoy a visit to her site. Chris Ray
